Weightless

Here is one of my new collages titled Weightless. I mentioned in an earlier post that I am into hot air balloons lately (as you can tell.) I don't know if I am going to put it into my etsy store yet. It is a little different than my usual collages but oh well..my style is evolving?!

Hope your Saturday is going well! It is 85 degrees here! Can you believe it?! I laid outside all day and read a book! It was great... I have not done that since last summer! Have a great weekend!

Video of the day: Belle and Sebastian

Here is a video by one of my favorite bands. Belle and Sebastian were introduced to me by one of my students about five years ago and I still love them! Here is a video for the Blues are Still Blue. Enjoy and have a great night!

The craziness continues...

I did another sketch this evening...I took a break from homework and grading and just relaxed and did this drawing. I am thinking of doing some large canvases in this style...maybe...This sketch does not have a title, so if you can think of one I would love to hear it!

I did this sketch with chart pak markers and a micron pen

Close up 2. Did I mention I am into hot air balloons lately? I want to go on one really bad...trying to incorporate them into my art at least.

Close up 3. I adore lines!

Hope your week is going well..they are forecasting 80 degrees for the weekend *yay* I can hardly wait!

CBUS Governor Art Show

Over the weekend the husband and I went to Columbus for the Ohio Governor Art Show. One of my students had a drawing accepted and we went down for the ceremony and the opening of the exhibit. It was so cool! I am impressed by all of these incredibly talented high school students!

Here are some pics:

Downtown Columbus...

I just like the composition of this for some reason...

Isn't this cool?

In the gallery (James A Rhodes building)

My student's artwork is the swimmer on the left.

A painting of buttons...who knew they could be such an amazing painting?!

There were lots of other pictures that I took but these came out the best...there were so many people there so it was hard to take a ton of pictures!

Hope you had a great weekend! I only have one more grueling week left and then I am done with my two masters classes for almost a month! I am so excited to have time to do more art! Yay!

Love this song...

Happy Friday! Here is one of my favorite songs called Sunny Road by Emiliana Torrini. It is a beautiful song, kind of sad but so still so lovely. Hope you have wonderful plans for this weekend. The husband and I are taking a weekend getaway to Columbus. One of my students got her artwork accepted into the Ohio Governor Show and we are going for the reception and the opening of the exhibit. I will take lots of pictures and post them!

New Sketchbook

I splurged and bought myself a new hardbound sketchbook. I am so excited! I started doing some paintings and collage inside of it already. I love sketchbooks because you can be crazy and try new things!

Here are some of my crazy and unusual sketches/collages:

I am getting really into simplified forms of buildings and houses...I have been looking through my Art Deco books lately and can't get the Chrysler Building out of my head..I just love it:)

Birds + City+ Flowers= Crazy Sketch

Fairy? I am not sure yet...

So this is what I kind of worked on over my spring break...I am kind of changing up the style. I don't know about it yet but it is fun and therapeutic and at this point, I need something to relax me!
Well I am off to do more school work..I am hoping to get a lot done before Lost tonight! It is one of my guilty vices!

Video of the Day...

Here is Jack Johnson's song Taylor. Ben Stiller is in the video and never ceases to make me laugh! I am a huge Jack Johnson fan and cannot stop listening to him lately! His songs are so mellow and soothing! Have a great Monday:)

P.S....I am hoping the chicken in the video is ok in real life!

Cleveland Art Museum

Yesterday the husband and I went to the Cleveland Museum of Art to view two exhibits and some of the collection of the museum. The museum had been closed for a while because they were and still are doing extensive renovations to it. More of the collection will open this summer and I am psyched to go when it reopens!

One of the exhibits we saw was an extensive collection of photographs taken by Lee Friedlander. His photos of family members and his multiple self portraits were so cool! He played around with reflections and shadows in his photographs and often produced very surreal looking images. My favorite photograph is called Mount Rushmore and I love it because Friedlander took pictures of the people looking at Mount Rushmore, an exquisite site, instead of Mount Rushmore (even though you can see it in the reflection.) I love watching people and it seems like Friedlander does to! If you get a chance check out more of his art here.

Anyways...The husband and I enjoyed our day walking around the museum and then had a lovely lunch at a fun Italian restaurant. We watched an interesting movie based on a true story last night about how the California wine industry made it big in the wine world. The movie is called BottleShock with one of my favorite actors, Alan Rickman.

Well here are some pictures from yesterday. I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend! I start back to school on Monday...oh how I am dreading waking up at 5 a.m again! Oh well...summer is on its way!

The husband going into the museum.

Sweet sculpture room closed off until summer...I wish I could have the sculpture of the head in my backyard...very festive for summer get-togethers:)

This was cool...armor from the 1500's...very impressive!

Another great thing is for us to get to the museum we have to drive through Little Italy...and this is where I saw...

This great mural!

Yay for art:) Have a great weekend!

Illustration Art and Breakfast

Yesterday was kind of productive (besides the random French party which actually ended up turning into more of a Mexican party when the husband developed a sudden craving for tacos...whatever...)

So anyways...I was playing around with my fancy illustration markers and also with paint and collage and came up with two little spring inspired mixed media artworks. They are a little different from what I usually do..what do you think?

Iris Garden

Lovely Little Hummingbird

I plan on doing some more art today and will post soon!

Oh...and I had the most amazing thing for breakfast...can be really healthy or really bad for you depending on what you like:)

It is just whole wheat bread (must be toasted!) with cream cheese and sliced strawberries...so good! Tastes kind of like strawberry shortcake! What is your favorite breakfast to eat? I also love pancakes with bananas! Yum..ok I am getting hungry again!

Have a lovely day!

Workin' on some art...bought some cute things...

Good Morning All! Hope you are doing well. I am just trying to stay warm! It is blustery and snowy here...yuck!

Since it is my spring break and all I have decided to relax a little and do some artwork. I have started playing around with some collage ideas. Nothing is finished yet but I plan on doing some today since all I want to do is stay inside anyways!

Also I recently made some lovely purchases from one of my favorite etsy artists and blogger Stelabird. I bought some lovely earrings from her other shop You're a Dreamboat.

I bought these adorable purple flower earrings...perfect for spring! I also bought some lovely yellow rose earrings...delightful!

Stelabird also gave me a cute little owl magnet!

Isn't he adorable?! I put him next to my Andy Warhol and Van Gogh magnets...I think I'll name him Vincent!

If you would like to check out Stelabird's blog, click here!
I highly recommend it, she is so darn cute and funny!

Have a fantastic day...I am off to work out and then work on some art...I might even treat myself to a shopping spree at Target and the art store today...I need something to cheer me up on this cold, winter-like APRIL day!

Eggshelland

Ok...so I am a runner. I really like to run outside through my neighborhood and all of the surrounding ones around me. Recently I changed up my route because I was getting into a running rut. Today I passed a house that had over 41,000 eggshells in the front yard in the shapes of different animals and a cross. I honestly did not know what to think...impressive or a little strange! I came home and told my husband about what I had seen and he knew exactly what I was talking about. Apparently someone is making a movie on the couple who create "Eggshelland." It has been all over the news and is a long tradition in our town (we are relative newbies still!) Here is what I found on youtube.

After watching this trailer I have a new respect for Eggshelland. I think it is quite lovely and such a beautiful story. I think I will go see the movie when it comes out. Just thought I would share my interesting experience today!

Spring Break!

Today is my official first day of spring break! Hooray! I am off for a whole entire week! I celebrated by waking up at 6:30 am..darn internal alarm clock! It might take a couple of days before my body lets me sleep in! I am a little sad this year about spring break. I am not going anywhere to get away! The husband and I have gone on some wonderful trips these past two years for my spring break.

Two years ago we went to Florence and Venice Italy...so beautiful there!

Tuscany

Me in front of St. Mark's

Last year the husband and I went to Oahu, Hawaii! So amazing and relaxing there!

This year I started my masters classes so it has been very hard to get away. I have so much homework to do this week! Ahhh! I am sure I will find some time to relax a little...let's hope so anyways! What is your favorite spring break memory?
